Checkered_Flag_chaseThe Bowling Green Area Lodging Association presents the 2nd Annual Checkered Flag Chase rolling into the NCM Motorsports Park on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 8 a.m. Benefitting the Boys & Girls Club of Bowling Green, the Checkered Flag Chase is a 5K and Fun Run/Walk that promises fun for the whole family.

“This race is unique because not only is it raising money for a great local cause, but it also gives participants an opportunity to run on the one-of-a-kind driving facility at the NCM Motorsports Park that’s full of unique turns, angles and straightaways,” Joy Jolly, Bowling Green Area Lodging Association Treasurer, said.

The inaugural 2014 race hosted 40 volunteers cheering on the 115 participants who crossed the finished line and raised more than $5,000 for the Boys & Girls Club.

“The Boys & Girls Club of Bowling Green annually serves over 500 children ages 6-18 giving them academic help, leadership opportunities and skills to keep themselves healthy,” Pam McIntyre, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club, said. “The Club is an out of school time provider, offering a safe haven for youth who need it most and we’re very honored to have the Bowling Green Area Lodging Association support our efforts of keeping youth safe.”

Because this year’s race coincides with WKU’s Homecoming activities, event organizers are hopeful that this event will complement other offerings for visiting alumni.

The Checkered Flag Chase offers early bird registrations at $25 for the 5K and $20 for the 1-Mile Fun Walk for those signed up by October 24. All early registrants receive a long-sleeve tee. Fees for all participants registering after Oct. 24 are $30 for the 5K and $25 for the 1-Mile Fun Walk.
