Friday, December 16, 2016 the NCM Motorsports Park played host to a film crew from Amazon Prime. Their mission? Illustrate why a GM driver has the best job in the world for the series ‘The Grand Tour.’
‘The Grand Tour’ features Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, formerly from the BBC program ‘Top Gear.’ The show is about adventure, excitement and friendship… as long as you accept that the people you call friends are also the ones you find extremely annoying. And sometimes it’s even a show about cars.
Thanks to our relationship with Michelin, the track was used to film a brand placement vignette, which is available as extra content on the show. ‘The Grand Tour’ makes global stops for taping, and Nashville, TN was one of the two U.S. stops for the first season.
“We recommended Corvette to them per the ‘American Sports Car’ that could be relative in their synopsis for a story line,” said Johnny Valencia, Michelin Community and Influencer Manager. “The synopsis includes that a GM driver has the best job in the world to be able to be behind the wheel in a Corvette on track, and they want his job.”
Of course, Jim Mero, Vehicle Dynamics Engineer – Corvette Ride and Handing at General Motors for more than 30 years, was an appropriate pick for the gig. If you’ve been to the National Corvette Museum you’ve probably seen Jim’s work behind the wheel… on the Nurburgring display video. Yep, Jim is the one that gets to put the car through the paces on that iconic test track – setting records along the way.
You can check out the clip of Jim tearing up the track below and follow ‘The Grand Tour’ on their global adventure every Friday night.
